On June 19, 2018, the Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition, Inc. was 1st recognized by Mayor Bob Buckhorn and United States Representative Kathy Castor for their work to raise awareness about Juneteenth in the Tampa Bay Area.
Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition, Inc. have received numerous proclamations from current City of Tampa’s Mayor Jane Castor. Mayor Castor remains supportive of our endeavors through media promotions and community events. Thank Mayor Castor for your continued support.
HISTORY
Juneteenth is the oldest know commemorative celebration of the ending of United States slavery. On June 19, 1865, Union Soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed in Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and the enslaved were now free.
Community
It takes an entire community to raise a child. Once that community is formed, anything can be achieved.
